Lea County Detention Center to Host TPR/Use of Force Instructor Course
The Lea County Detention Center will host a Threat Pattern Recognition (TPR)/Use of Force Instructor Course November 16–20, 2026, in Lovington, New Mexico.
The five-day, 40-hour course will be instructed by John C. “Jack” Leonard and is designed for law enforcement and corrections professionals. Outside agencies are welcome and encouraged to participate.
The instructor-level training covers a variety of topics related to threat recognition, officer response, use of force, and instructional development. Course topics include Threat Pattern Recognition methodology, use-of-force human factors, control principles, tactical handcuffing, defensive counter strikes, restraint systems, impact weapon systems, weapon retention and disarming, time, distance and cover, and threat recognition and response.
